Building skills, creating opportunities and helping keep our community safe.
At Rumi Mosque, we believe that giving young people opportunities to learn, belong and build a future is an essential part of preventing knife crime.
Kitchen Knives, Positive Lives is a certified cooking course for young people aged 16–25. The project aims to help participants develop practical skills for employment, grow in confidence and make positive choices while contributing to a safer community.
Through 12 weeks of training with Chef Sami with 30year experience, participants have the opportunity to learn cooking skills in a supportive environment. Working together in the kitchen also encourages teamwork, responsibility and a sense of achievement, qualities they can carry into education, employment and everyday life.
Our purpose goes beyond cooking. By offering meaningful activities and introducing young people to opportunities in catering and hospitality, we aim to help them stay away from knife crime and take steps towards a rewarding career. We want every participant to recognise their potential and see a positive future for themselves.
